Who Gets an Additional Dose of COVID-19 Vaccines?
Show Notes

The Delta variant has made it clear the COVID pandemic is far from over. Recent studies have suggested that immunocompromised patients may have a reduced or no antibody response to the currently available COVID-19 vaccines. On August 13th, the CDC and FDA recommended that patients receive an additional vaccination. Hear Dr. Geoff Wall and guest, Dr. Nicole Alvey, on how immunocompromised patients need an additional dose, and how to prioritize their care. Drs. Wall and Alvey also share preliminary thoughts on booster vaccines based on the U.S. Surgeon General’s announcement on 8.18.21 recommending booster shots available at 8 months; however, the Biden administration announced on 8.25.21 that booster shots should be available after 6 months of the last dose, pending ACIP review.

Guest:
Nicole Alvey, PharmD, BCPS, FAST
Associate Professor, Roosevelt University
